Description
The mill was built in the early 1200's by the Monks of the nearby Serene Abbey, providing the people of Chiusdino of a place where to mill their grain, but also where to "stiffen" linen for sale on distant markets. This activity was performed until well into the 15th century.The mill has recently become even more famous thanks to a short but intense period during which it featured in adverts for Barilla products.
The farm has only 8 sober but elegant rooms and a little restaurant that serves typical local dishes. It is surrounded by a huge park with a very romantic swimming pool. Care and attention are never lacking, and our guests will find it difficult to forget our rich breakfast served in the garden. Perfect for couple and families, the farm is ideal for relax but also, for those who are curious to discover Val di Merse and its surroundings on foot or by bicycle.

Forty minutes driving from Siena and the seaside, very near the beautiful medieval towns of Massa Marittima and Volterra, just a stone's throw from the huge Abbey of San Galgano, famous for it's “Sword in the stone”, and the Monastery of Montesiepi, the Mill encourages the discovery of the surrounding territory, along beautiful cultural, archaeological and natural itineraries.In one hour you may reach the splendid Natural Park of Uccellina.
Wide open spaces offer the chance to enjoy the flowing waters of the River Merse which embraces the north-eastern front of the mill building.
Ancient boroughs and castles are spread in the whole Merse valley.

ActivitiesYounger guests can have fun in our specially equipped play area. A large, attractive swimming pool, which merges beautifully with the rural environment, satisfies the needs of guests who wish to spend their holidays in an oasis of peace and quiet with the comforts of modern living. The house provides for bicycles, a volley ball field and ping-pong, archery too can be practiced.Val di Merse is famous for its 11 tracks that you can follow bicycling or trekking. Not far from the mill, you can go for horse riding, fishing and mushroom picking. |
